Advance notice 1

On 21 January 2019, Steven Spurrier addressed the annual Awards Ceremony of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) at the Guildhall in London, and took the opportunity to give advanced notice of the launch of AdVL – now scheduled for 30 April 2019. Here is an extract:

“This is my second year as WSET’s Honorary President – and more importantly for us all here, it is the 50th anniversary year of WSET itself, having been founded in 1969. I’m proud to be able to use this opportunity to announce that, to coincide with Michael’s 92nd birthday at the beginning of May, a new publishing house, the Académie du Vin Library, is launching a special edition of Wine Tasting with a foreword by WSET’s Ian Harris and new introductions by each of the Honorary presidents of WSET who followed Michael himself: Hugh Johnson, Jancis Robinson, most movingly Gerard Basset who generously wrote his piece in November and who so very sadly died last week, and myself.  We are all so pleased that Gerard’s widow, Nina and their son Romane are here with us this evening.

Wine Tasting will be the first title in the new Académie du Vin Library, which will publish books about wine new and old – including a new series of Guides to the most well-known grape varieties and wine styles.  I’m confident that many WSET students will enjoy the books and find them useful.”
