Located in the very heart of Burgundy, Côte d’Or stretches for a narrow 35-mile band but holds some of the world’s most expensive vineyard real estate, where some of the great names of French wine, such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Puligny-Montrachet, are produced. There is hardly another wine region where knowledge of the back-story is so critical to understanding the wine, for it is impossible to understand burgundy without reference to the place it comes from and the people who make it. In Côte d’Or Raymond Blake transports the reader to the heart of Burgundy to tell the whole story of this hugely influential region, painting a complete picture of life there: the history, landscape, climate, culture and people.

• Features 100 producer profiles (with accompanying wine recommendations), the majority of which are new to this edition
• An expanded geology and climate section for greater insight into the prized terroirs of the region
• The first edition was shortlisted for the Domaine Faiveley International Wine Book of the Year at The Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards, 2018
• Raymond Blake is an independent voice in wine, a wine enthusiast with a warm and welcoming style who writes for other passionate consumers
• Improved colour mapping, featuring more detail on the most notable appellations

Raymond Blake is one of Ireland’s leading wine writers. His enthusiasm for wine is boundless and as an independent voice his judgement is widely respected. As a wine writer, his travels have taken him to the far-flung corners of the wine world, but his spiritual home is Burgundy. He is the author of the books Breakfast in Burgundy and Wine Talk. He writes regularly for World of Fine Wine, Sommelier India and wine-searcher.com, and is a member of the Circle of Wine Writers. In 2006 he was inducted as a Chevalier du Tastevin in Burgundy.

‘The books that taught me about wine were about places and people. It’s the history and stories about a wine that bring it to life and make it worth talking about.’

– Steven Spurrier
