The companion volume to the author’s The Wines of Northern Spain explores the great variety of wines produced across the rest of Spain. Beginning in the east with Catalunya, the book journeys south down the Mediterranean coast to the Levante. The heart of Spain, including Madrid and La Mancha, is explored before we reach Andalucia in the south and voyage on to the Balearic and Canary Islands. The regions covered could not be more different, separated by language, customs and history as well as by gastronomy and wines. After a chapter on key grape varieties the author explores each region in turn, relating its history, exploring current trends in winemaking and viticulture and profiling the key producers. There is also a chapter on Spain’s sparkling wines.

• Follows on from the success of Sarah Jane Evans’ The Wines of Northern Spain, also in the Classic Wine Library, published in 2018
• Chapters cover big hitters such as Sherry and Priorat as well as less well known gems such as the island wines, making this an ideal book for more adventurous wine lovers
• The author is one of the most highly regarded global commentators on the wines of Spain, an in-demand speaker, wine judge and Master of Wine
• Supported by colour maps and photos

‘The books that taught me about wine were about places and people. It’s the history and stories about a wine that bring it to life and make it worth talking about.’

– Steven Spurrier
